Fortress Clayton!!

The Story so Far....

Back in 1996, the Wallace brothers, Barry and Richard and best pal James Holtby built a fully functioning bar at their property in Shoreham by Sea, West Sussex. Based upon bar memrobillia bought at a car boot sale the bar was named 'The Jamaica Inn'.
That dark, cold winter the England Cricket team were on tour and whilst watching the matches on Sky TV through the long nights in the bar, the founder members of Jamaica Inn Cricket Club were inspired to bring together friends and form a side to play local pub teams.
So during the Summer of 1997 JIPCC played a series of games against 'The Half Moon' pub at Warninglid, West Sussex.
The following season Alec Stewart the charismatic Landlord of the Half Moon encouraged JIPCC to adopt Warninglid as the club's home ground. The ensuing seasons resulted in the club playing up to 18 fixtures each Summer against village and pub teams alike.
After Alec sold the pub JIPCC soon realised that they were being forced away from Warninglid by the attitude of the Residents Association and moreover by the snooty
reaction received from the new owners of The Half Moon, who did not seem to understand the spirit that had prevailed under Alec. In 2006 JIPCC were barred from The Half Moon, with the exception of the Metcalfe brothers who have their own post match table, -reason for being barred?- not having the club dog on a lead!!!!
Luckily intellectual player and fixtures secretary, Jamie 'The Arm' Stacey was able to secure Clayton as the club's new home venue, where they still play today.

This Season JIPCC will be playing approx 20 fixtures and hope to enjoy themselves and entertain opponents with their lively banter, familiar cries of "come on the pirates" and colourful side attractions, including 12th man (Toffee the Dog).

The side have had a few lean seasons result wise but aim to improve this year with the addition of some star loan signings and the influence of enigmatic Mr. Cricket the Skipper for 2012!! Perhaps pirate bashing, read about on opponents web sites, will be reversed this season as the new arrivals spur on this aging and some may say, disabled in many ways side.

Plucking defeat from the jaws of victory...well maybe...lets see!!!!!!!!!!
